Inkdesign shortlisted for GIA Design Awards, 2017

The team at Inkdesign were delighted to be shortlisted within the ‘Small Projects Category’ (<£250k) at tonight’s GIA Awards.

Inkdesign were shortlisted for their work on Abbotsford House, a two-storey rear and one-storey side extension to a 19th century grand blond-sandstone detached property in mature grounds within Giffnock’s conservation area.

The client wanted to achieve an open plan living space, with a modern kitchen-dining area for entertaining and daily family life, as well as more bedroom accommodation on the first floor.

In form, the extension echoes the existing house; a slate-roofed and parallel gable linked while visually separated by a recessed band of glazing.  Its white render exterior provides distinction between old and new.

A six metre wide glazed sliding door allows ample daylighting to the living space and access onto the large terrace and garden beyond, capitalising on the generous mature gardens to the rear.

A more contemporary single-storey white render box is clad in sandstone to the front of the property, providing ancillary accommodation and this includes a generous side entrance to the house.

Roof glazing between the two gable roofs lights the stairwell which provides access to the new guest bedroom and master suite on the first floor, both given generous full-height glazing onto the mature garden.
